What happened
Xiaomi launched the 18 Fold in China, a passport-sized foldable with a 5.38-inch outer display and 7.58-inch inner display, both 120Hz AMOLED at up to 4,000 nits. It runs Xiaomi's in-house XRING O3 SoC (10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, custom NPU), packs a 200MP Leica triple-camera, 6,000mAh battery, and starts at 256GB with LPDDR5X while the 1TB model gets LPDDR6.
Why it matters
This is consumer hardware news with no direct impact on what builders ship. The only mildly notable detail for this audience is Xiaomi's continued push of its own XRING silicon with an NPU based on its large-model architecture, but there is no SDK, API, or developer ecosystem detail here to act on.
Discussion angle
Whether Xiaomi's in-house XRING NPU matters for on-device AI app development — though this article has zero developer ecosystem detail, so likely a very brief mention at best.
