What happened
Accessory makers dbrand and Spigen have published case listings and renders for the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's first foldable iPhone 'Ultra' just ahead of Apple's 'Surprise and Shine' keynote at 1am on 10th September Malaysian Time. The foldable features a raised rectangular dual-camera module with rounded corners, and cases cover front, rear, and spine. This is Apple's first iPhone keynote under new CEO John Ternus after Tim Cook's departure, with a global RAM shortage expected to raise starting prices.
Why it matters
Malaysia is a first-wave launch country, so local developers and founders who build iOS apps or mobile-first products should prepare for foldable screen layouts and new aspect ratios in their design and testing workflows. The RAM shortage-driven price increases may also affect device upgrade budgets for teams standardizing on iPhone test devices.
Discussion angle
Whether foldable iPhone support is worth prioritizing now in app UI testing, or whether the small initial install base makes it a wait-and-see — especially given the likely higher device prices from the RAM shortage.
