What happened
XCancel, a service that let users view X/Twitter content without an account, has been suspended indefinitely due to a new development in ongoing legal proceedings. The site now returns HTTP 451 (Unavailable For Legal Reasons) and redirects visitors to x.com.
Why it matters
If you relied on XCancel as a dependency for embedding, scraping, or proxying X content in apps or agents, it is now dead and you need a fallback. This is another data point that third-party Twitter/X proxy services are legally fragile; plan around official API access or alternative data sources rather than free mirrors.
Discussion angle
How much of your agent or app stack depends on unofficial proxies for platforms that are actively hostile to third-party access, and what is your replacement plan when they go down?
