What happened
HP launched the OmniBook Ultra 14 in Malaysia exclusively at Harvey Norman, priced from RM9,999 to RM11,599 across Intel Core Ultra 7 356H and Core Ultra 9 386H configurations. The Deep Espresso Limited Edition is capped at 100 units nationwide, with all models featuring a 14-inch 3K OLED 120Hz display, Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7, and an NPU rated up to 50 TOPS for local AI workloads.
Why it matters
If you're shopping for a local AI inference laptop in Malaysia, the 50 TOPS NPU on the Core Ultra 7 356H base model at RM9,999 is the concrete spec to compare against Snapdragon X Elite alternatives—though at this price point it competes with high-end MacBooks rather than budget dev machines. The Harvey Norman exclusivity and 0% installment plans up to 60 months may matter for cash flow decisions.
Discussion angle
Is 50 TOPS on an Intel NPU actually useful for local LLM inference or agentic workflows, or is it still more practical to run models on a cloud GPU or a dedicated NVIDIA laptop at this price?
