What happened
ZTE launched the U15S 4G Pocket WiFi in Malaysia at RM299, combining a Wi-Fi 6 hotspot for up to 32 devices, a 10,000mAh power bank with 18W charging, and built-in eSIM roaming across 150+ countries. Notably, it claims seamless access to WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Grab, Shopee, Waze, and ChatGPT while traveling in China without VPN configuration. It is 4G-only (no 5G) and available via Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop, and selected malls.
Why it matters
For Malaysian founders or developers who travel to China and need reliable access to ChatGPT and other blocked services, this device's built-in roaming claims to bypass that without a VPN setup — worth verifying before relying on it for work trips. Otherwise, this is a consumer connectivity gadget with limited relevance to building or shipping software.
Discussion angle
Does the China roaming claim (unfettered access to ChatGPT, WhatsApp, etc. without VPN) actually hold up in practice, and is that a real differentiator for Malaysian professionals traveling there?
