What happened
Malaysia's LLM and developer Prosignal Consortium Sdn. Bhd. (PCSB) temporarily disabled TuJu's turn-by-turn navigation for emergency maintenance after a traffic surge overwhelmed its servers, days after the government banned civil servants from using Waze on duty. CCTV streams and basic info features still work, but LLM gave no restart date and SoyaCincau's hands-on testing found erratic guidance, missed highway exits, no lane guidance, no real-time traffic, no Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and cases of raw HTML appearing on screen. LLM apologised and conceded system capacity and server stability were underprepared, and said navigation accuracy, route precision and UX need major overhauls.
Why it matters
A concrete launch-readiness case study: a product that went from limited use to a nationally promoted audience in days without the capacity or QA to survive it, and the broken core feature was left visible in the iOS app with little in-app indication it was offline. If you ship a consumer app with any kind of mandated or sponsored distribution, decide in advance how you'll feature-flag or degrade a core function, show status honestly in the UI, and load-test for the spike before the push — not after LLM's emergency maintenance notice.
Discussion angle
If your app got a sudden national push tomorrow, what would break first — and would users be told? Walk through what a staged rollout, a navigation feature flag, and an honest in-app status banner would have changed for TuJu.
