What happened
GitLab shipped an out-of-band critical patch on October 21, 2026 covering 19.5.1, 19.4.3, 19.3.6, 19.2.9, 19.1.9, 19.0.10 and 18.11.13 for both CE and EE, and says all self-managed installs should upgrade immediately. The Critical-rated bug is an integer overflow in the regular expression compiler; two Highs cover OmniAuth-to-LDAP auto-linking email lookup (improper authentication) and cache poisoning in OAuth/OIDC discovery endpoints. GitLab.com and GitLab Dedicated tenants on 19.3.5-internal0 / 19.4.2-internal0 or later are already fixed, and the underlying vulnerability issues stay private for 90 days after the patch release.
Why it matters
If you self-host GitLab CE or EE, this is an upgrade-now item, not a next-maintenance-window item: the top fix is a Critical regex-compiler overflow and one of the Highs is an auth bypass in LDAP auto-linking, which is exactly the login path many teams enable. Because GitLab keeps the issue details private for 90 days, you cannot read a write-up to judge exploitability first — the version list is all the signal you get, so pin the upgrade before you know what it is. One of the Medium entries is a 'use of less trusted source' bug in the AI Gateway feature enablement header on EE, worth checking if you have AI features turned on.
Discussion angle
The 90-day embargo means you patch on the severity label alone — is that how your team actually handles vendor advisories, or do you wait for a proof-of-concept write-up? And note that one of the Medium fixes is in GitLab's AI Gateway enablement header: are AI feature flags now part of your security review surface?
