What happened
From 16 November 2026, Discord will create public web pages for eligible Discoverable Servers with AI-generated conversation summaries, and from mid-December individual messages in participating public channels may become searchable on Google. The new 'Show me message content from Discoverable channels on web pages' setting is ON by default for adult accounts in Malaysia, the US and most of the world, while it is OFF by default in regions such as the EU, UK, South Korea, Canada, Brazil and Australia, plus verified teen accounts. Past messages sent before the mid-December rollout will not be crawled, but turning the setting off later only protects future posts and does not remove messages already indexed.
Why it matters
If you post in Discord Discoverable channels, check Settings > Data & Privacy and switch off the web-page message setting before mid-December; otherwise your exact words can be indexed even though usernames and avatars are stripped. Server admins must separately disable AI Channel Summaries and Channel Messages under Server Settings > Community > Web Presence, because the user-level toggle does not control what the server publishes.
Discussion angle
Do a live check of the Discord Data & Privacy toggle during the call, then debate whether default-on search indexing is acceptable for Malaysian developer communities and who should own server-side Web Presence settings.
