The move marks the enhancement and formal institutionalisation of the National AI Office (NAIO), which was established on 12 Dec 2024, to drive the nation’s future technology transformation agenda. No CEO was announced, suprising some ecosystem observers who thought a CEO would be announced during the introduction. Sam Majid, who was CEO of NAIO, and whose strong foundational work was universally acknowledged by the Malaysian AI ecosystem had completed his one year contract at NAIO, plus a 6-month extension by end May. According to the Digital Ministry, the launch of AI Malaysia will serve as a key catalyst in realising the country’s AI Nation 2030 aspiration. The agenda has been formulated in line with the objectives of the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan and the Malaysia MADANI framework, which place AI at the heart of economic growth, public-sector transformation and the inclusive improvement of societal well-being. Institutionalising AI Malaysia: Strategic coordination across government As the national AI entity under the Ministry of Digital, AI Malaysia will serve as the lead body integrating policy coordination with implementation at the national level. Through a whole-of-government ecosystem approach, AI Malaysia will undertake the following principal responsibilities: Policy and implementation coordination: Connecting national policy strategies with holistic implementation efforts High-impact monitoring: Ensuring that the outcomes and achievements of initiatives under the National AI Action Plan 2030 are closely monitored Trusted AI governance: Developing governance frameworks, codes of ethics, standards, trust mechanisms and coordination of AI-related policies Strategic collaboration: Coordinating strategic relationships and AI collaborations at the global level Malaysia AI Safety Institute: Fulfilling the role of the national AI Safety Institute to strengthen Digital Trust National AI Action Plan 2026–2030: A Nation-Building Agenda In conjunction with the launch, the government also introduced the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 as a critical nation-building agenda. Initiative highlights growing demand for human skills alongside AI adoption Inaugural festival explored how creativity and collaboration can complement AI in the workplace The National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom) partnered with Gig for Good, a Malaysian organisation that uses live music performance for leadership and talent development, and Musicians for Musicians, an organisation that supports the rights, welfare and professional development of musicians, to explore how music can help develop the human capabilities needed in an AI-driven economy. As AI-driven workplaces continue to evolve, businesses are placing greater emphasis on developing skills that complement technology, prompting organisations to rethink how future talent is prepared for new ways of working. The initiative was showcased at the inaugural Gig for Good Masterclass Music Festival 2026, organised by Gig for Good in collaboration with Pikom Academy and Musicians for Musicians, from 24 to 26 July. Held under the theme "The Augmented Individual: Artificial Intelligence x Human Performance", the festival brought together technology professionals, corporate leaders, musicians and young talent to explore how human capabilities can complement AI. More than 500 participants attended the three-day festival, which featured keynote sessions, panel discussions, masterclasses and live music performances focused on preparing talent for an AI-driven workplace. Alex Loh, deputy chairman, Pikom, said the rapid growth of AI requires a rethink of how people are prepared for the future, with technical knowledge needing to be matched by human capabilities. "While AI can enhance human potential, individuals must continue developing qualities that allow them to adapt, create and connect with others in an increasingly technology-driven workplace," he said. According to Pikom, music provides a practical platform for developing capabilities such as collaboration, communication, problem-solving and confidence, skills that are becoming increasingly valuable as AI reshapes workplaces. Beyond entertainment, live music performance requires individuals to respond quickly, work with others and communicate effectively, creating an environment where participants can build confidence while working towards a shared goal. Through live performances, participants were encouraged to work together, think creatively and respond to challenges in real time. Tan Hui Choon, founder and programme director, Gig for Good, said such experiences provide a different approach to learning by allowing participants to apply skills in real-world situations rather than through theoretical discussions alone. "The confidence gained from performing and collaborating can be carried into workplaces, classrooms and other professional settings," he said. Former AWS executive to expand Databricks' partner ecosystem across APJ Appointment comes as organisations increase investment in agentic AI and enterprise AI adoption Databricks, the data and AI company, has appointed Corrie Briscoe (pic) as vice president, Partnerships and Alliances, Asia Pacific & Japan (APJ). Based in Singapore, she will lead the expansion of Databricks' partner ecosystem across the region, working with cloud providers, systems integrators, independent software vendors (ISVs) and technology partners to help organisations scale data and AI applications, analytics and agentic AI solutions. Briscoe brings 30 years of experience building and scaling partner ecosystems across Asia Pacific. She joins Databricks from Amazon Web Services (AWS), where she led the APJ Partner Core organisation, overseeing partner programmes, strategic investments and go-to-market initiatives.
